Curriculum
The core subjects, Maths, Science, English, French, Geography and History follow the Independent Schools’ Examination Board syllabuses, taking the Board’s papers in May of Year 8 This course of studies puts our pupils further ahead from those who follow the National Curriculum for Key Stage 3. As a result of this programme, we are able to move rapidly to GCSE work at the start of Year 9. All other subjects work on courses which broadly follow the National Curriculum.
Our Curriculum in Years 7 and 8 builds closely on the work done in the Junior School in Years 5 and 6, who follow ISEB courses in Maths, Science and English.
Year 9 to 11. Year 9 is used to lay the foundation for GCSSE and many pupils begin GCSE courses at the start of the year. This enables our pupils to make rapid progress during these years; some pupils are able to take Maths GCSE at the end of Year 10. At the end of Year 9, pupils make their choice of optional subjects.
Year 12 and 13. We provide a rich variety for our Sixth Form pupils, who may choose to study either AS or A2 subjects or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Subjects offered in the IBDP include: Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English as a first and second language, French as a second language, History, Geography, Economics, Music and Visual Arts.
More detailed information is available in our GCSE and Sixth Form curriculum booklets. These are available from the school or can be viewed on our website.
The School offers revision courses in the Easter holidays for GCSE and A level pupils.
