Ryde School’s Remembrance Day Service took place on Friday 11th November in All Saints’ Church. The Service was led by the School Chaplain, Reverend James Leggett. During the service the Deputy Headmaster, Mr Anthony Shaw and Mrs Sian Evans, Senior Teacher, read out the names of the 27 Old Rydeians, one Upper Chine Old Girl and 31 Old Bembridgians killed in action. This year, there was a new name to add, following the death in action earlier this year of Lance Corporal Jonathan McKinley who was a pupil at Bembridge School from 1989 – 1994. This gave the readings a particularly poignant quality and included poems written by soldiers serving in Afghanistan. They were delivered by Robynne McPadden, Sorcha Verey, Joe Ashworth and Adam Foster. The Last Post was played by Anthony Gray, William Duxson played the organ and wreaths were laid in the Warrior Chapel by Head Girl, Charlotte Mousley, Deputy Head Boy, Jonty Leggett, and Cadets Oliver George-Taylor and Sam Coleman. The Choir sang I Give to you a New Commandment by Peter Nardone, The Lord is my Shepherd by Howard Goodall and Deep Peace by Andrew Carter.
