Expectations and Discipline

Ryde School is a civilised community where great value is placed on the well being and development of the individual. We expect high standards of  behaviour and consideration towards others.

The School has a series of sanctions for misbehaviour, information about which is available in the Pupil and Parent Handbook. The following deals specifically with major disciplinary issues.

The Headmaster uses three sanctions. A headmaster’s Detention, which takes place on a Saturday morning, Suspension form school (also known as Temporary Exclusion) and Expulsion (also known as Permanent Exclusion).

In some cases the Headmaster will move through the sanctions sequentially. However, such a sequence may be inappropriate, and a single breech of school discipline of a major kind may justify Permanent Exclusion, without any previous warnings or sanctions.

In other cases sanctions are applied sequentially to act as warnings. The Headmaster does not normally award a Headmaster’s Detention more than twice and will apply the sanction of Suspension or Expulsion, if a series of serious misdemeanours continues.

In the event of gross misconduct, the Headmaster may make a decision to expel or require removal of a pupil on less than a term’s notice.
