Science

The science programme is based on the QCA scheme of work for Key Stage 2, but is enhanced with several topics outside of this curriculum. Science is largely delivered in a newly built and furnished laboratory, which is very well equipped, with an overhead projector and a suite of computers.

Children enjoy four lessons of science each week, which is further enhanced by a large number of fieldtrips. Throughout this phase, specialist teaching allows children to make rapid progress in acquiring knowledge, powers of deduction and analysis. While national tests are mainly based on scientific understanding, our children enjoy an emphasis on using a range of practical experiments and investigations. This aspect of our work is important to ensure children enjoy science and to provide them with the necessary scientific skills to foster critical scientific thinking and a fuller understanding of concepts, which they take with them into the next stage of their education.
