The geography course stimulates children’s interests in their surroundings and the conditions on the earth’s surface; as well as fostering a wonder at the beauty of the world. It helps our children to develop an informed concern about the quality of the environment and the future of human habitats. They develop a sense of responsibility for the care of the earth and its people. Through their work both in the classroom and out on numerous fieldtrips, they develop skills of numeracy, literacy, graphicacy and ICT, together with spiritual, moral, social and cultural values. We deliver a greatly enhanced National Curriculum. Children make progress in identifying places, what they are like, and how and why they change. Our children have a natural curiosity about their surroundings and a natural desire to understand how people can improve their environment. They will recognise how places fit together in their wider geographical context, comparing and contrasting them at different scales.
Children enjoy a number of field trips, locally as well as on the mainland. They are taught to use appropriate fieldwork techniques, using ICT in their geographical investigations. Our children take an interest in current affairs, develop a sound geographical knowledge, as well as appreciate the beauty of their surroundings.
