Boarding Explained

Four types of boarding are available at Ryde School.

Full Boarding: With the exception of official exeat weekends (dates published well in advance), and of course the main school holidays, you will, as a full boarder, reside in the boarding house throughout the term. You may of course stay with your family or friends on other weekends, providing prior arrangements have been made with Miss Sutton.

What do I need to bring? In addition to the uniform and equipment required for school, you would need to bring: suitable casual clothes, bedding (although this can be provided on request), nightwear, underwear, toiletries and any personal items which would help you to feel ‘at home’.

Weekly Boarding: Weekly boarders either stay from Sunday evening or Monday morning, returning home after school on Friday, or perhaps Saturday lunchtime if involved in sporting fixtures. This is an attractive option to parents who have a busy work schedule. Weekly boarding allows for easy participation in any extra curricular activities on offer, and is, when the cost of travel, food and leisure activities are taken into account, quite a cost effective alternative to being a day pupil. It also gives you the opportunity to spend free time with your friends, but with the added advantage of senior pupils/staff on hand when it comes to prep time!

What do I need to bring? Please see the above list for full boarders (although maybe not as much of it)!

Flexi Boarding: Subject to availability, we are able to offer a small number of places to flexi-boarders. This can be anything from one night to a more lengthy stay. These places are taken up for many reasons:
  • perhaps your parents are going away on business / holiday
  • maybe you wish to board during an examination period
  • perhaps you or your parents wish you to board in preparation for University
  • you may wish to see if boarding is for you
For further information or to book a period of flexi-boarding, please contact
Miss Ann Sutton on +44 (0) 1983 872101 (or email to bbc@rydeschool.org.uk)

What do I need to bring? Just your personal belongings. All bedding and towels are provided.

Day Boarding: This can be a convenient arrangement for busy parents, who perhaps due to work commitments find the usual ‘school run’ difficult to fit in with their daily routine. This facility allows you to be dropped off, either early in the morning (before breakfast) or to remain after school for supper, prep and any evening activities which may be available.

What do I need to bring? Just yourself and some ‘home clothes’.
